Replaced these things today, but I forgot to take photos. The inner fenders are perfect - on par with the front wheel wells. I took a few hours and scrubbed everything I could with degreaser and various scrub brushes, before I cleaned and layed down a quick layer of Florida paint to make everything uniform again. It really looks great under there.

And how the car sits now. You can't really tell a difference, but the rear sits an inch lower, and you can see Florida Green paint peeking out from the rear wheel well.

It was a good day.

Looking great-an inspiration for sure! Can't wait to get to that point myself. Any intention of driving it up to Monterey in August? Would love to comb over it in person.

Hells yeah I'm driving this thing to Monterey.

God forbid I become one of those guys who collects cars and doesn't drive them.

Sweet! Then I shall surely see you both! What's your plan for the wknd? I'm usually at the Historics Fri w/my dad. Then on Sat, i'll be volunteering for Canepa in the pits, or perhaps at one of the other venues, depending on what cars they bring to drive or show.

I have exactly zero plans. I'll probably attend some shows, drink some beers, drive recklessly, volunteer at Legends, camp on the side of the road, camp at Laguna Seca, attend some BBQs, and repeat, every single day.

  • 3 weeks later...

The 1600 runs! and She runs strong.

Having the car towed to my buddy's 02/911 shop for a final comb-over. I'll start driving this old girl next week.

I may send the car off to have an exterior coat of Ceramic Pro applied. I basically never want to wax the car ever again.

But yeah, photo of the car in its current configuration. She's dusty, but damn is she pretty.

Looking fantastic Ryan!  You can use some cleansing powder such as Comet on that washer bottle and cap.  Will make it look much better.

i see you also have some tape where the hood brace folds. Darn design.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
