All turbos are lubricated and cooled with oil. Newer turbos have a

small water jacket that coolent passes through. This keeps temps

down and almost eliminates the after shut down heat soak that

would coke oil and ruin turbos.

The original 02 turbo was not water cooled.

..."milestone" (millstone?) in production turbo technology. No water cooled turbo. Volvos had water-cooled turbos beginning in 1985.

saab added water cooling to their turbos in '88

comes iwth an oil cooler below the rad, In the long slot of the air dam. No intercooler
