'02 Auto trans exhaust downpipe question.

Greetings and thanks for reading this question. Do exhaust downpipes on automatic-equipped '02's differ in design from early to late production? I have a friend who has a '76 fitted with a tii exhaust manifold that is in need of an entire system - my concern is whether the exhaust downpipe I've been quoted on reflects a special thermal reactor item that may not reflect what is needed when contrasted to the current spec. of the car. With news of unemployment, fires, hazards in Iraq and elsewhere - everybody hang in there... Best regards to a very consistent group of friends...

When I had my automatic 2002s, I don't recall the down pipe being any different from manual trannied cars. I do believe that the transmission support bracket was slightly different though.

What have you been upto lately? Working hard?

I think the down pipes are different on autos but I'll check for sure if you want. Danny

Perhaps on a way too personal note, but... I'm on unpaid medical leave from work - depression in the wake of frustrations with my role as a young adult librarian teamed with the all-encompassing experience that is my mothers declining health. Young adults (yeah right!) above the age of 15 either while away time at home on the internet, work, play sports or hang out at the mall - they don't come to the library unless coerced. Combine this with the fact that 90% of program participants are squealing girls dipping heavily into insipid popular culture and you get a pretty uncomfortable work environment. Only dirty old men could derive satisfaction from doing this - no thanks, I think I've had enough! With respect to my mother, two weeks ago she had a diabetic episode which left her entirely deaf. As I've scrambled for employment and have done my best by my mother, I've not visited my '02 or the board for about three weeks now. Ugh! On the other hand, the EGR item Danny sent remains terrific and is ranged with every other intake part I've so carefully gathered and isolated this fall. Thank you both for your inquiries as to what's up with me. Best regards...

The reactor type down pipe does have a different part number than the non-reactor type (18 11 1 245 510 with reactor, 18 11 1 104 922 without). I don't know for sure if they are substantially different from each other though and only the non-reactor type is available new. All of the auto down-pipes are different from the manuals in that they have an extra curve in them to allow for additional bellhousing clearance. Good luck on the job hunt.

HTH,

Matt
