If sending unit is bad, will dash light still come on when you turn key to 'on'? I am assuming if everything works, oil press. light comes on (like battery light, etc) when starting car. I just got my first 2002... and trying to figure out what's normal sequence...or if there;s a problem here... thanks

oil pressure warning light should come on. If it's not coming on, check the circuit--you don't want to find out the hard way you have no oil pressure! The warning light sender switches do fail. Easiest way to test is to substitute another switch. they're not expensive...

Pull wire off pressure switch and short wire to engine block. Turn key to ignition position. If light comes on, light and wiring are OK.
