Guest Anonymous October 31, 2003 ...since that's for the 4-cylinder M42 engines introduced in 1991, not the earlier M10 used in our cars (and the 320i, the '84-'85 E30 318 and, in a varied form, the E30 M3). I also understand early "big six" starters to work, since those engines (from most 5-series cars and their predecessors before 1982 and E28 533/535s through '88) are more-or-less M10s with two more cylinders. I've heard the best upgrade is the E30 M3 starter for its light weight, though the six-cylinder starters may also have more torque than the stock 2002 units.
