Just bought a Porsche

Judging from the photos, you got a great deal on this car. The non-original engine does detract from value, but I can't think of a better non-original engine to have than a period correct 911s motor with MFI. The engine alone is worth what you paid for the whole car. Someone out there may be looking for that very serial number engine to reunite with their 911s. If that person exists, he would pay large money for your motor. Consider posting it over at 911SRegistry.com

BTW: Here's my '70 911T:

Thanks. And Brent, your '70 looks great. Looks like you've done a full on restoration, beautiful. I'm just going to do the interior on my '67 and only because it needs it so badly. I'll let the next guy do the body off resto. I'm going to appreciate the originality of this car, drive it hard, enjoy it and not have to worry so much about keeping it pristine like I do with my 2002. And if I never sell it, maybe my son or grandson will want do a full bore project on the car.

I've got all the mechanics squared away on the 911 and almost half the interior is done. My first air cooled car and it's been a learning process, not a whole lot in common with the '02. I will say its a really well built automobile. From what I've read, these early ones were hand built and it's evident.

This car just keeps getting better. Test driving my reinstalled OEM shifter Sunday a guy in a beautiful cabriolet Carrera 4S follows me back to my house. "You want to sell that car?"..."Not really, I just bought it"..."I'll trade you straight across for this one"..."seriously?"..."yep,right now". I thought about it it but turned him down. The Carrera is an '06 and cost about $120K new but is probably valued at half of that now even though it looks mint. I don't think the '67 is going down in value but the '06 will continue to do so. Momentarily tempting however and he gave me his card should I change my mind.

Project complete (or,are they ever?)

No radio, no AC, all new but period correct interior. After much research, procuring of bits and pieces and many late hours in the garage it went together quicker than I anticipated. This car is raw, pure, rude as hell and a blast to drive.post-35680-0-78927400-1433532526_thumb.jpost-35680-0-65140400-1433532582_thumb.jpost-35680-0-36876600-1433532632_thumb.jpost-35680-0-55706500-1433532658_thumb.j

Greg- please do me a favor and go to your original post and edit (and then select advance edit) the title to this thread with "Porsche". Ferry Porsche would appreciate it as well. Two syllables please. Danke.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
