How important is a sunroof to you??

I'm in the process of looking for a tii to restore. I've found 2. One

has a sunroof (Pastelblau) and is in pretty shotty shape, the other

is in better shape (Malaga), but no sunroof. Both have minimal

rust.

Which would you choose?

I have one with AC no sunroof, and another with sunroof no AC. Assuming you will really be driving the car, the latter is far preferable, all things being equal, unless you live in Houston or somewhere like that. Value-wise in a restoration candidate, I think it's a factor but not as critical as body integrity, originality, roundlight/squarelight and color.

...non sunroof a three sunroof '02s.

By design, ventilation is really poor, and if you don't have the ability to crank the sunroof open on a hot summer day, you're gonna need A/C. What's the fun in that?

I was able to keep up with my caravan group on the trip to O'Fest in the 100 degree heat last year by turning the heater on full blast and keeping the windows and sunroof open. Can't imagine doing that w/o a sunroof to keep the air moving.

The return trip had help from a new triple core radiator by Curt Ingraham.

I also suspect that, at some point, a sunroof car will be considered more valuable, much the same as a Porsche 356. Time will tell.

Cheers!

I have with and without it and I actually find myself

driving most of the time with the sunroof closed, all

things being equal: sunroof but not if you have to

give up something important.

i dont have one. it was down to two, for me, and the one w/o a sunroof was just not as solid of a car. hey they're more "structurally sound" right? haha

But not because of ventilation. I spent 12 years in the South and I never had, nor wanted a/c in any car/truck I had. I guess I don't sweat.....

I just like the feeling of looking at the sky/leaves/trees/etc..... above my head.

It's kind of a deal breaker for me, although they will

rust easily. Damn tradeoffs.

I've owned and currently own quite a few BMW's. Every one I own that doesn't have a sunroof in it, I wish it did....

I would never buy a non sunroof 02 unless I was going to use it for a race car.....the +'s of having a sunroof for nice sunny days out weigh any bad points (leaks, mechanical problems etc) in my view.

In the past, I put more value on a Sunroof when shopping for 02's. In these old cars with poor fresh air venitalation/HVAC, the roof seemed more important in a 2002 compared to many other brands of cars I've driven.

More recently, I seek to purchase non-sunroof versions of older cars. They are lighter + stiffer bodies and save a lot of extra work when converting to a racecar.

The sunroof is very important. It's open most of the time, I just have to watch out for the R A I N. Rain has a very surprising way of showing up here in So. Fla. Did you see it during the Marlins/Yankees game..??

More potential for water leaks and rust.

More parts to break/fix.

Lower interior room.

Go with the best car overall.

To each our own.

my Inka is without sunroof. then again, it has other aspects about it that make me forget that detail. I open my roof every drive. only close when sun beating down on me through it and making internal heat of pilot exceed safe temps! Get the sunroof- you will be happy and it will be more valuable .

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
