Thank you jimbojames!

Yes, I am lucky, and have a pretty big garage to make a mess of. As for the car, I know what I *WANT* to do, but my skills and pocketbook will likely hold me back a bit.

More than anything else, I want it to be a comfortable and reliable daily driver. I do have my work cut out for me though. I am missing: heater/defrost; rear seat; sun visors; rear-view mirrors; knobs to open front vent windows; windshield washer reservoir/pump motor; cabin dome light; and radiator over-flow tank.

That is all that I know I need, after about 2 weeks of ownership. I am sure that list will become much longer.

I need heat now, so I will likely prioritize that.

As for paint, I think that a lot of the prep work has been done, but probably a lot yet left to go. I can not read the original paint code, as that has been over-sprayed. It is a magnificent dark blue though. In time, I will save up for a nice paint job.

I am currently of the belief that I will never be able to make this a real "head turner" of a car, but I want to do all that to make it as functional as possible.

Again, thank you for the welcome.

Brandon

I have many of those parts. If you ever get over to the Seattle area you're welcome to come by and dig through my parts shelves!

As far as the "head turner," screw it man. Drive the thing! They're meant to be driven! Yes, I enjoy looking at my '02, but I REALLY enjoy driving it.

Good luck!

I'm a bit late to the party. My name is Paul Huber and I'm on Orcas Island. I've been here for four years after 29 in San Francisco.

I've got two 2002s: a 1972 Baur Targa that I've owned twice, and a 1971 Pickup conversion that I bought from Esty.

BTW there are four other 2002s on the island, half of which are running.

Hoping to make it to the Seattle 02_02_21 gathering if things settle down, and meet many of the great folks in this group.

I love the picture at Olga! Both the place and the car are gorgeous! When I was growing up we had a summer house just south of Doe Bay for nearly 30 years and we used to walk to Olga when it was a store(one of its many lives I've seen) then hitch back. My sister crashed her Inka '72  on Mt. Constitution one night in the mid 1980's. We rolled it back over and drove it home. Good times.

Hope to see your cars there sometime when the virus is subdued. I still go visit friends there 5-6 times a year by car and boat. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Hi all! I'm in Issaquah. I just picked up a '73 Verona (it was advertised for sale here on the FAQ). Super excited - I've wanted a 2002 since I've had a driver's license (a long time!) and finally had the funds to make it happen. I previously had a non-op 1600 that sat in my garage for a few years before I offloaded it (for a ridiculously cheap amount, oh well!). I was finally able to get the car registered last week and have enjoyed a few local drives around Issaquah. Speaking of which, for those of you who don't do your own work, what are some good shops around here? I'm super close to Eastside Bavarian, but not sure they service older vehicles.

Thanks,

Geoff

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
