One, I hope someone saves it as it doesn't look horrible to me either but also, there's WAY over $600 in parts on that car.

....you guys kill me. I buy a Tii in very similar shape for $200

and get flamed. This guy's reserve has not been met at $600

and that's a deal? We all know that what is on the surface

probably indicates much more below. I think the car is toast.

And yes-the parts do add up, BUT you still have to remove,

list and ship them. I do it on a regular basis but it's a pita.

Maybe I'm cheap but to me it's way too much money for a car

in that shape.

...is worth far more than $600 on the east coast, that's for sure. Looks to be pretty much all there, too!

When I started looking in 2000, I found cars in worse shape for $4200-$4500.

I sure hope someone saves this one. It's already a survivor, and deserves to be brought back among the living.

Cheers!

this 'fickle crowd' apparently approves of countereiting, to the point of changing the chassis number. imagine that- get a blank vin plate and grind off the factory vin. voila- you are now a bmw god. after all, the heart of the car are the tii specific mechanicals.

Here's your Colorado(used to be anyway)Tii with matching

numbers. I'll see if I can get all the rust infested parts and

pieces out of the dumpster and I'll let it go for the very

reasonable price of $2500! That is a VERY cheap price-less

than half of what similar Tiis go for on the east coast-I GOT

WITNESSES!!

Wake up and smell the coffee. Some of these cars are junk,

done, toast-ADIOS AMIGO. What you see on that Tii is just

the tip of the iceberg. Parts value? Sure. But you still gotta

take them off! That is hard work and takes up space-for a

long time. I'll give you this one-the wheels are worth that

alone-I missed that, BUT-what is the reserve? Much more

and the wheels are out. Unrestored alloys=$200 per max,

then to have them done properly=another $200 per. Been

there, done that. Better off spending a little more and getting

a Southern or Western Tii that has a future. PS-just because

you HAVE seen Tiis go for a certain price doesn't mean that's

what they are worth-we can all dream.

...but maybe you refer to my dilemma re: the pictured Tii. I

was wondering if it were an approved method of "restoring" a

Tii-get a clean shell and x-fer mechs. After considering many

different points of view I decided it was not worth it. I wouldn't

want a car that was questionable. Personally I think people

place too high a value on Tiis anyway.

Nobody's bitching about the ebay reserve value of this east coast car except you. So, if yo think it's a parts car, fine. You're entitled to your opinion. You don't have to buy it.

But someone might. They may have their own opinion about it's value and it's potential.

It might just be their "diamond in the rough."

does anyonr really support counterfeit VINs? I understand mixed Vins: combo of cars, but to recreate an existing VIN would be pushing in the wrong

direction in my book. I know about the VIN plates that say stamp your number- i thought they were for restoration when your Vin plate was unrecognizeable. I dont think anyone approves of counterfeiting vins, do they? That would definately poduce some bad karma and be very "un-02-ish"/ IMHO, but seriously down about stamping an existing VIN number.

no longer ago than early august this nevada guy started a thread asking about transferring his rusty tii chassis number to a non-tii rust free shell. it seemed to me, as the only naysayer, that the board in general supported this idea, and in specific two canadians related how they have done that with other cars.

their premise was the body is only a part, and the most important parts of a tii are the tii specific mechanicals. no shit, i was the only person to say this is wrong, and it amounts to counterfeiting. these canadians were talking about generating actual government title paperwork to validate the change.

thank God somebody else agrees with me. although you may regret that when i get flamed for this post.

....message board friends a polite question. Who the hell are

you to crticize me or the nice people that answered me? I've

been around since these boards were born. Your negativity

seems a new arrival to me. And get all the info before

spraying bullshit. Not everyone agreed it was a good idea to

do it. NO ONE thought it was ok to create a forgery. Some

people thought that "re-bodying" a Tii was fair game. Seems

you are the only one granted divine insight to know the true

answer. My position was, and still is, that if there is not a 100

percent legit way of doing this-it's not getting done. The car

has been scrapped, the vin tags cut up, One less Tii on the

planet-happy now? The parts have been shelved to help

restore other Tiis around the country, so far from coast to

coast. Anyone that knows me and/or has done business with

me knows I'm honest to a fault. My intention was to preserve

a rare commodity-not dupe anyone. Anymore comment

directed at me should be in person instead of hiding behind

a crt-I get around so maybe you'll get your chance.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,
