Taking the 02 apart. Word of wisdom?

Thanks a lot Bill! But after further investigation, it's not going to work for my purpose, which is to essentially replace my frame rail. At first I thought to myself, how easy could it be if I could tilt the car to work on the frame rail - but for obvious reasons this tilter won't help me.

Ok, so the motor is out and on a stand, Ihad an issue finding M10 (and an M8) bolts (locally) long enough for the motor mount.

We put the sub-frame back in so we can roll it to the paint shop when the time comes.

Starting to remove the un-fun items... brake booster, master cylinder, lines... etc. I'm starting to wonder at what point I say "ok this is enough, paint around that," although I do have a while before I get to that point.

I hate wires, especially wires which aren't connected to anything. I think I'll start a new thread to identify them (since it can be helpful to others), I want to remove useless wires from the harness. EDIT: new thread on unconnected wires: http://www.bmw2002faq.com/topic/162674-help-identifying-wiresconnectors-engine-bay/

current state: with my buddy giving me a hand.

another day of work on the weekend... I discovered just how bad the floor pans are and it was a little depressing.

- Rust/rot/hole along front of pedal box. (those 4 self-tapping screws were to cover a hole to pass QC safety inspection)

Had my 2 buddies over for breakfast before we started to work on the car, One brought some Spumanti and orange juice... I think we might be the first trio of guys to work on a car while having mimosas.

So aside from stumbling on to some pretty troubling things every now and then, I'm having a pretty good time doing the teardown (when I'm not thinking about the cost of things ;))

...the dash was a bit of a biche to take out primarily because of the cables to/from the heat/blower box, I'm sure there was an easier way, but I ended up opening the heat/blower box and disconnecting the 4 cables.

That passenger side patch is a surprise to me too. I never had the carpets out, but know from looking underneath that there was some rust in that area. The 2 front fenders were brand new around year 2000 IIRC. Nice to see that car get a much deserved full resto. Don't give up!

thanks for the words of support Tony.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
