Chrome Polish

Guys, has anyone ever tried Quick Glow chrome polish, I just watched an episode of Jay Leno's garage and it seems to be a great product, it essentially cleans up the rust and provides a wax sealer at the same time which will then last a certain time before needing re-doing.

I like the explanation of the rust on chrome (or anything else really), and it seems like an honest description of how it works, I think its sounds like common sense, but then common sense is often not that common!

Chromium on metal is like paint on wood, if you wait until it flakes off before you use Quick-Glo, ONLY THE REMAING CHROME AROUND THE AFFECTED AREA WILL CLEAN UP, BUT THE MISSING CHROME CAN ONLY BE REPLACED BY REPLATING THE METAL!

Here's what Mothers can do. I am making brackets to put early bumpers on my square tail. I bought some aluminium tube to replace the shocks. I thought I would clean them up a little before putting on. After a little wet sanding with 600, 1000 and 2000 paper I then polished them up with Mothers. The results surprised me. The aluminum now looks like chrome. Here is a before and after shot. The brackets were painted.

Does Mothers seal the metal as well, this Quick Glo stuff reckons that it seals the metal to stop the reaction with moisture, at least for a while.

No, it is just a polish. I just read the fine print on the jar and it says "Not recommended for gold plating, chrome, anodized, painted or coated metals". I guess I'll go back to Simichrome for my chrome. But it does work great on aluminium and alloy wheels.
