Clutch Slave Question

I have an early 1971 car with a 232 transmission.  Here's a picture of the slave cylinder that was on the car when I bought it.  Weird.  I have a new slave, and the two snap rings and correct rod are coming, but the parts diagram shows a "mounting bracket" between the tranny mounting hole and the snap ring.  Test fitting the new slave leaves a gap between the snap ring and the tranny mount - it sure looks like some sort of spacer is needed, and since the fit in the tranny hole is not particularly snug, it seems like there needs to be a way to prevent the slave from rotating in the mounting hole.  Can anyone clue me in on the missing part?
