Euro BMW 320 For Sale

Recommended Posts

Hello, I have a Saphire Metallic Blue 1980 BMW 320 Grey Market car that was in storage but is now out. I just took it out of storage at Thanksgiving for a seller I lost contact with. This car was originally purchased in Germany and imported to the U.S through Washington State in 1980 (It comes with the Euro plate). It has a clear WI title and was running when I stored it 15 years ago. I put stable in the gas and motor when I stored it. It has the Dog Leg close ratio 5 speed manual transmission, independent suspension, LSD, with BBS brakes. This is the M20 "baby six" slant six cylinder motor with Aluminum head, cast iron block, headers, and a 4-barrel carburetor... it goes like a rocket!. As well as a dealer installed fire extinguisher mounted on the front of the E21 Recaros drivers seat (see pics). It has an aftermarket Alpine stereo with  Pioneer and Pyramid speakers. There is rust, dings, dents, scratches, and needs upholstery work. I planned to restore it myself so it comes with new fenders, emblems, and a carb kit. My work has taken me out east and I don't have time or space to hold on to it any more. I am asking $1500 or best offer.
Thanks, Rich

FYI - Glenn C. in Ohio, I can not send email to your last email address, please respond the car is ready.

Since you asked..

Yeah.  2K is very high for an e21 in that condition..the 320/6 (2.0L six cylinder) isn't that desirable.  Now, if it were a 323i, then you'd have something.

Its just too toasty.  The bumpers are certainly desirable, but that back one being doinked is a big disappointment.  the seats, shot.  Motor, its in no man's land.. e21 guys don't want it, 2002 guys don't want it..generally.    The trans is interesting, but most want the overdrive version.  That has the same final drive as a 4 speed..  Differential?  Not sure anyone here knows what a MkIII Supra diff into a BMW entails.

Unless you can find a die hard e21 enthusiast (rare in itself), you have a donor car that I would pay 5-750 for if it were close to me.

Just my appraisal of the situation.

Regarding the asking price, if it is indeed a dogleg gearbox, the price is reasonable. Sticker on shift surround shows standard overdrive pattern, is that incorrect? Late CR transmissions have BW type brass synchros and are bulletproof, excellent trans for a vintage race 02, with bell housing change.

The dogleg pattern is rev, over to left and up. First over to left and down below rev, this is the dogleg portion as rev isn't considered in the pattern, only forward gears. Second up to right, third down to right, middle of pattern. Fourth up to right from third, fifth down to right below fourth. Pattern is an H with an extra leg. H and a half!

On an OD box, reverse is by itself and fith is by itself opposite side of pattern with 1234 in an H in between. That is what the pattern on your shift surround looked like, which would make it an overdrive box.
