Awesome pics, doesn't get much better than SB.  If I could find a way to make a living and support my lifestyle I it would up there on my list (along with Carmel, San Luis O'Bispo and a few others <out of state>).  Our weather here in Northern California has been ...... weird (incredible but weird).  Lived here my whole life (-12 years in Newport Beach) and have never seen weather like this for such a prolonged period of time (warm/mild).  If we don't get a bunch more rain and snow in the Sierra's the price of gas will seem cheap to that of water......Those that live in SB know that drill only all too well.  Hopefully to all you getting hammered by the winter storms mother nature will take a break (soon), at least you have water (lots of it...)

AWESOME DRIVE !!  I've done most of that at various times over the years.

In post #14 above Gordon mentions Cold Springs Tavern:  the uphill on 154 from Santa Barbara .... (sigh) .... there are many many '74tii memories associated there, driven that a few dozen times, fantastic for both the curves and the scenery.

And the Drum & Foxen Canyon roads .....

Cheers,

Carl

Marcmac,

I love it here in SB, and I can't imagine living anywhere else.....but you certainly pay for it! I rent and both of my cars live on the street. SLO would also be on my short list, my girlfriend and I love driving up there for the weekend. It's less expensive than SB, but not cheap!

Carl,

Cold Springs is a great place, on Sundays they have tri tip sandwiches all day and they are amazing!

Arminyjack,

I just did a wine country run last weekend in the 2002tii (my girlfriend loves the car!), lunch in Solvang, then drove Foxen Canyon Road before looping back to Los Olivos. It's nice to have all this in my backyard!

Is the Cold Springs Restaurant still open, next to the Tavern ??  I haven't been there in a few years and my wife and I always liked the place.

here's a run for us:  101 North to Refugio State Beach.  Exit there, then head inland, the road takes you up & over the mountain and drops you right onto 246 in Santa Ynez ......  Refugio Pass Road .....  the "shortcut" to Solvang !!

Cheers,

Carl

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
