My friends have gotten me into homebrewing and I was just wondering if there is anyone else on this board that is into that sort of thing. I havn't brewed a beer yet, we are going to do that soon. I have made Hard apple cider, and some berry thing, and then now I have a Peach Mango wine and a Blackberry plum and straight up Blackberry wine sitting waiting. Thing about wine that sucks is I won't be able to enjoy it till August next year at the earliest =( That is why beer is up next, we have to have something to drink soon. Its a whole lot better than that crap like Bud etc.

I started out with one of those small MrBeer kits. Looked like beer, smelled like beer, tasted like beer...Hey! I made beer!

From that point I went on to their recipies and actually had 2 consistant batches back to back of a spiced lemon wheat. After that I have been experimenting with whole grains and less extracts.

I've got the 5 gallon bucket kit now. Once winter sets in I'll start up again.

The MrBeer kits are great to start on and really build your confidence. Good website for info, too.

Made some wonderful batches, but haven't done it in a few years. Was actually thinking of it the other day, but beer would just kill my low-cal diet.

I had great luck with recipes from Papazian's "The New Complete Joy of Home Brewing".

according to me-

-NOT a hurry up project.

-the more work(effort, love, frustration)you put in, the more you get out. just like everything in life.

-if you don't actually enjoy the process, it will never be cheaper than storebought.

-it may induce beer snobbery, which is even more ludicrous than the more common wine snobbery.

- canned syrup wort sucks.

fwiw & ;-)

...spent an entire summer trying to perfect my version of Sierra

Nevada Pale Ale. Got close; and the cost down to about 12-15

cents a bottle for ingredients.

Now do 12 gallons of all grain at a time. Moved equipment and

effort to a neighbors garage as my 02 project(s) took over my

garage.

It is fun time permitting, Kev.

Wife bought me a starter kit for Xmas 8 years ago. I think she regrets it, says the hops stink up the entire house. Oh well....

I do know what they say about "beer snobbery". In college drank Michelob (beginning of the year) migrated to Bud, then to Busch, then, by the end of the school year we drank Goebel or Schaeffer. Man, did our house stink Sat and Sun mornings. Now I cannot drink any of that crap. Good thing we have 5 microbreweries in the Green Bay area!!
