I am "looking" at a fairly rare car that is in Brazil (Sau Paulo) and am leary of importing it. Anyone have any experience with bring a car up from South or Central America? Europe isn't so tough, but this seems like uncharted territory (no pun intended).

Also, I need a shop in Sao Paulo to look at the car. Any ideas?

TIA

Joshua

If you go to Brazil, the trip itself, would probably

make this car very special. I wouldn't do it

personally unless I knew somebody that had done

it before. I would definetely try to get some type of

inland marine insurance. Either way, it must be

fun just entertaining the idea!

Good luck, Joshua

Ferrari 308gt4 (looking at one tomorrow, I hope).

3.0CSL (if I can find one I can afford).

2002 touring.

Any factory Alpina that comes along with a California B.A.R. sticker.

Euro M635csi w/ B.A.R. sticker.

Not sure where I'll end up, but I hope it will be fun.

DON'T BRING TRAVELERS CHECKS - THEY DON'T WORK VERY WELL THERE . MOST BRASILIANS DONT SPEAK ENGLISH AT ALL .

SAO PAULO IS THE MURDER CAPITAL OF THE WORLD - TOPPING 12,000 A YEAR !

THE GOVERNMENT MAKES IT A LOT EASIER TO EXPORT

A CAR THAN IMPORT ONE - IT MAY BE EASIER THAN YOU THINK .

2002's ARE EXTREMELY RARE THERE ! THERE WERE ONLY TWO BMW DEALERS IN BRAZIL THAT SOLD THEM .

THEY DID HOWEVER MAKE THEIR OWN ISETTAS .

I HAVE TRIED TO IMPORT SOME VW PARTS BUT THE COST IS HIGH .

There is a section (200 miles I think) called the

Darien Gap on the eastern side of Panama near

Colombia, no roads thru, to speak of, kind of bring

your own bridge, travel only Jan-March only, 4x4's

that I haven't seen in this country and escorted due

to the narcotrafficants that used this area to hide.

The rest of the way up, from Panama City to US

has some of the most beautiful roads, I would

definetely travel that way again.

Funny thing about how long that car has been for sale. Then again, the car market (for most cars) so so friggin soft--I have seen some really schweeet cars (not just bimmers) for not that much money--definitely a buyers market. Good luck with whatever you get.

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,
