I know I talked to someone with a real nice white 02 with the sport seat in, and they said they bolted right up!

If anyone knows, please give a shout!

Thanks

Neil

According to the PO, they were not a direct bolt up and had to be modified to fit. They sit a bit high but I prefer the seat itself to the E21 seats in my Tii.

...and I know they are not a direct bolt up. He had Matt McGinn custom-fab some mounts for them while his car was being restored last year. I think you can make them work without major re-engineering of the mounting flanges but they sit quite high--a fact I distinctly recall from before Paul had the custom mounts done.

I'd give McGinn a holla for specifics on his custom job.

I tried to fit a pair of e30 sport seats into my 76 on the stock '02 seat rails and gave up. No matter what they sit way too high. I'm 6'0" and my head was almost on the headliner.

From what I've read from other posts is that all the installs of these seats involved cutting the stock welded in seat rails from the floor pan and mounting the seats directly to the floor pan. I guess you could then say "they bolt right in".

I found a pair of Sheels and had them and the back seat recovered.. They are comfortable and look nice, but it was also a $1,000.00 investment

No worries, my memory is shot!

The Flo-Fits are to big and bulky for the 02, they are comfortable, but crowded. I am not a fan of cloth interior either.

The old Recaros just seem to look "right" in an 02.

Soooo....after I part the 533...and have some $$$ I will get a set off of Dave Varco.

For around $1200 you can do new Recarro SE's and they're really nice. The e21 sport seat is OK, but $500 for a 20+ year old set of seats??? Are you going to keep the car???

Yeah, I know...but I like the "vintage look" and if I don't keep the car, the seats will go in the next one!

And for me, $1200 vs $500 is a BIG jump!

I have seen Daves seats, and the look brand new. They do a great job restoring them.

I've got a set of e21 Recaro's (from a 320is) that I'm looking to

sell with the adapters for the 2002 sliders. They truly do bolt

right in, and they were recovered a year ago and look great.

I'm only selling them because I'm replacing them in my own

2002 with a set of Recaro SRDs. Email me if interested and

I'll send pics.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
