Hello there, it's Coop...

I posted many months ago about a group order on aircraft quality billet stub axles. I have been in touch with the company that built them for Ireland Engineering many years ago (Jeff Ireland gave me their information) and they amazingly still had all the information on file. If I can get 10 orders, then I can get us an amazing deal (I have had several conversations with the shop)...So far, I have 4 orders confirmed, including myself. FYI, these guys have been in business for decades and are considered the best when it comes to axles and the like. The company is called Summers Brothers in Ontario, CA. Let me know if you're interested.

Best,

Coop

Regarding the Billet stub axles, if you were to only buy one pair, it would cost $750. The group rate that I have obtained for 5 sets is $550/pair. If I can get ten orders, then the price will drop to $475/pair, which is less than new OEM parts would cost, I'm told.

I spoke with Jeff Ireland about these axles and he said they are completely indestructable. He bought his sets 8 years ago and has been racing with them ever since, without so much as a whimper. Apparently, he was shredding them before then! He told me I'm damn lucky that I haven't pulverized mine given the power I'm running...I don't want to push my luck any more!

Contact me if you're interested.

hey Coop; thanks for organizing a group rate. But what will be the group build? i already have "issues" with flanges, spacing, bolt size, etc. would we have stubs that would marry to a 320 LSD? or wuld we be getting stubs for a 2002 diff? I am having Ed in Berkekey provide me with a 79 320 half shaft for the ends that i need to fill the gap on my A4. going nuts with half shaft issues. please let me know about compatablity issues. requirrements for 3.90 LSD. i will probably join the group purchase- they should be better than turbo which are too hard to find and 30 year old anyways. thanks very much.. kehoe in miami in the rain

I think Coop's running the e21 3.90 LSD also, so hopefully

the e21-to-2002 conversion can be taken into account in the

stub axles themselves. If so, I'm on board.

I believe that you are confusing stub axles with differential output flanges. Starting outboard and moving inboard, first comes the splined hub, then comes the splined stub axle that slides into the hub, than comes the half shafts, then comes the output flanges and then comes the differential. You (and a few others) keep asking about compatibility of these stub axles with certain differentials. However, the stub axles have NOTHING to do with the differential. I just got off the phone with Ireland Engineering and he confirmed that fact...

The parts that I am having made are exact reproductions of 2002 stub axles, only they are machined in high quality billet instead of cast like the OEM units. They will work with either a 2002 case or a 320i case.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
