behind the passenger seat was a very large amount of water. I'm talking a good gallon or so sitting on the carpet in the part of the floor that is next to the driveshaft tunnel. I have not driven the car for a couple of days and I have had the thing parked outside (my garage was being taken up by a rusty mercedesw/a sunroof problem). It has rained once, but I don't have any visible leaks around my windows, etc. I also did not drive Grunhilda in the wet weather, so I am totally stumped as to where all of this water came from. I am going to check out the window seals when I go to clean out the water, but I am also thinking of getting the back seats out to see if there is anything obvious. Anyone else ever had this happen?

cover and check underneath for signs of a leaking backlight gasket. A leaking backlight gasket will allow water to run down behind the back seat into the space under the back seat. (ti'll also run into the trunk) There are "drain" holes in the back seat riser that allows this water to run onto the back seat floor under the carpet (until it rusts out the floor under the back seat, then you'll have "natural" drains). Here would be my list of suspects:

1. Door gasket, trailing edge of glass

2. Quarter window gasket

3. Backlight gasket

Easy way to test: dust talcum powder or flour in suspect area inside the car, then squirt with hose to simulate rain. Leaks will show as streaks in the powder you used and you can trace 'em to their source.

Cheers

Mike

My 75 had this problem. After a rain water would be in that same area, but it only happened when the car was parked on an incline with the front higher than the rear. Water was backing up in the valley and then coming in around the heater box.

Once I finally found that those rubber drains were clogged and unclogged them, it didn't happen anymore. But it had already taken its toll.

about the passenger backlight seal. I have not had the chance yet to pull out the seat fully, but I can feel that there is at least a puddle of water back there. I will let you know what the talc powder test reveals.

Thanks

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
