Is This Guibo About To Fail?

Tried out the R-compounds today. Started with the front, and took it for a drive. No unbalance. Great, I thought, it's one of those rims. Later I put the old, front, ones back on (the R's will move to another ET rim and needs another trip to the tire man), noticed left front lacked air and filled up about 0,7 kilos. Which is a lot, especially since I filled it up a week ago..

Drove it home, no unbalance even though it was the old fronts. So either it was due to the lacking air, or it wasn't centered on the bolts. I guess. I probably did drive an embarrassingly long time with low pressure, but it still beats me - I'm not that lazy checking tire pressure.

Maybe the centering. I've tried it before, but maybe I haven't gotten it right. Gah..

I guess..=)

Only small issue know is I put one of the "ugly" Borranis, that's been treated with a sledge at some point by a previous owner, in the group of rims that'll be clothed with R-compounds. On the other hand, it's probably better tracking the uglier wheels if ever in close contact with curbs or so=) And on track, who cares?

RE: keeping spares around, when I was growing up my father acquired a spare engine for his 1929 Chain Drive American LaFrance Fire Engine. That was 40 years ago and the original 6cyl T-head engine is still running strong. The spare is sitting in the garage. he's had a few offers to buy it, but he won't sell the spare, He calls it "Sympathetic Magic"

Like it too. But In my case it doesn't seem to work, I've got two brand new guibos in the basement. This one seems fried anyway.

Anybody else think that tranny rubber mount looks a little smushed?

EDIT: Well, not really on second glance. I guess you can't delete a post.

I think it looks like there is oil on the trans mount which can lead to premature deterioration.

Yes, there's oil. A tranny rebuild in on the to do list. I got another, the old, tranny waiting for me to take it to a man who's done a few hundreds of them..=)

But, the mount is just about a year old, and the sturdier E21 version. I think it'll last a while longer. I'll take a look this weekend, when I replace the guibo.

you can't see the wheels from the drivers seat......looks not relevant!

i have seen far more damage to wheels from curbs on the STREET than on any track.

As long as it's 13" it isn't.. ;)

Then again, it is. I couldn't put ugly wheels on it. It would feel disrespectful. I love the darn thing too much.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
