Kugelfischer Fi Pump Overhaul Question

Lengrep

Recommended Posts

My 1973 tii engine was rebuilt with 9.5 Maule pistons and an E12 head. I was told I should have the later (1974) KF pump or at least the later KF pump cam for this head.  That makes some sense, but I don't want to make an expensive mistake.

I have two rebuildable cores--one early, one late. Which way should I go?

And do you folks have shop recommendations? I'm looking at Koller + Schwemmer in Germany (who has the original tooling and test benches) or Precision AutoResearch in Illinois...  Jack at JFPro in Van Nuys swears by Precision, who could also do my distributor at the same time.

Thanks!

You can not go wrong with PAR, if you can afford them and stand the wait. Send them, or whomever you choose, the injectors too.

There are other re-builders with good reps, a fellow named Fairchild on the West Coast and Hans on the east coast.

Dave Redszus and his son Dave at PAR are extremely knowledgeable and are a real resource on questions like subtle differences between early and late pumps and whether modifications are required for your particular engine and head, but as Bill Williams said, you pay for it (not that there's anything wrong with that), and there's a long lead time.

Hans Utke in Bohemia NY did mine, a bone-stock rebuild back to original specs. Turnaround was less than a week, cost was about a grand.

For anyone searching this thread...Dave at PAR did mine...and oh my gosh. Piece of automotive art; not just the appearance, but the extensive documentation of fuel flows at different RPM’s and throttle settings. I removed a pump previously overhauled many years before by Hans in NY.  Dramatic difference.  Also had all the linkages and adjustments dialed in, and injectors cleaned by Marc Norris at his shop in West Hills, CA.  Exquisite.

Cost just under $2000. And a year’s wait. Still waiting a couple years later for my tii distributor overhauls.  So don’t pull your pump and wait for the overhaul unless the car in undergoing restoration!

Jerry Fairchild rebuilt my KF pump in 2003, turnaround was about three weeks and price was about $500.. That was 16 years ago but I have no issues with my pump since it was rebuilt.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
