1600 update - Headlight bucket mounts in the nose panel

Got the 1600 back from the bodyshop last night. The paint and metal work both look great. Damn, did I miss that car.

However, the headlight buckets don't seem to fit as well onto their mounts in the new nose panel as they did with the old nose. There is an irregular gap where the headlight bezel does not touch the inside of the headlight trims that are part of the side grilles.

The nose panel is a complete new repro mobile tradition piece. I'm wondering if 1) the headlight buckets themselves were stressed in the accident in such a way that they don't look damaged, but are; or 2) the headlight bucket mounts were positioned slightly off when the nose panel was assembled. Neither the body guy or me noticed anything until we installed the headlights. The headlight bezels are installed correctly (right, left, top, bottom). The insurance paid for new grilles, but the only ones available new were the later, shallow style (according to body shop guy's BMW parts dood at the dealer). I have a pair of the correct early 1600 side grilles, but when I install them, I still get the headlight bezel gap that I did not have before. These grills will go up for sale once I have the headlight thing figured out and can get the correct early 1600 side grilles on.

Any thoughts? Did that make sense, or do I need to drink more Dickel?

holes on the nose panel so that you can center them in the grille outer headlight surrounds. There's quite a bit of adjustment space, and you can create more by enlarging the holes and using wider fender washers...

the complete early nose/core support assy. from my BMW dealer. The quality of the pressings is really bad. The fenders don't want to mate to the nose sheet metal. There's no excuse for body parts like I have. The three pieces cost $1200.00

No doubt I'll have problems like you're having once that I get to assembly of the front end trim pieces.
