The original owner, whom I purchased the car form, got in contact with me today. He sent me over some photos of the 2002. This first one is the car back in 1974 in its original Malaga paint. the second is of the car back in the early 90s before the car went into storage where it sat until I purchased it.

Decided to tackle the console job this weekend. I have 6 gauges, and with three fitting in my IE pod, three needed to be fitted elsewhere. It all started with some MDF. (If I did this again I'd buy a nice hardwood sheet for the console).

After a few measurements and cuts.

I am pretty happy with the end result. The e36 Euro clock unit is the same size as a single DIN stereo, so that can always be added if I decide to quiet the s14 down a bit.

I spent the last couple nights working on running senders and just tidying things up under the hood. I also wanted to re do some of the coolant hoses and re wrap the wiring harnesses. While things were disassembled I figured it was a good time to touch up the engine bay with some new paint. It is nice to have fresh paint to cover up the bare metal or left over malaga paint.  I need to remember not to use the front shuttle as a make shift tool tray now that its pretty again! I still need to clean up some over spray that was done when the car was originally painted Chamonix back in the day. That and order some reproduction 2002 engine bay stickers and decals and figure out a way to re mount my VIN plate.

edit**

The shearing of the bolt has been fixed by removing the hard and unforgiving riverside engine mount in favor of a BMW rubber mount. I met with a vibration engineer who tests shock through sensitive computing systems and he did the math based off of the durometer ratings of the two different bushings. Magnitudes of order higher with the solid mounts, so off they came. Many miles of driving and no issues with the loose bolt (I still check it often however...)

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
