I got there late due to soccer. I heard Lance dropped out midway, so I didn't really see him this year. We still got some schwag, and I did get to Simoni close up which was really cool.

What REALLY ticked me off was that there was NOT ONE 02 in the line of support vehicles!!!.

Anybody know of some old pics with an 02 as a support vehicle?

The race route passes a couple blocks from my apt,on the Filmore hill climb section, and they used Pacific as a temporary detour at one point.(not usual). So i noticed a bunch of cop cars and cop motor-bikes at the Laguna end of my block, not knowing what was going on(the last time a bunch of cars gathered like thaton my street, a dog had killed a woman 3 blocks down).Mike arrived with his Alpina while I stood next to mine that was legally parked right in front of my apt. building. His parked "illegaly" in front of my garage doorwhich is fine if a resident is there to move the car. So, we were talking and happily looking at our cars on the street, oblivious to the race a few blocks away, and a cop car went back and forth a bunch of times and kept eyeballing my Inka, sans smile. Maybe the color offended him, maybe he was pissed that i had it in a legal spot, maybe he was just tired from constant traffic control. Maybe he was mad 2 "old cars" were not in the support vehicle line.... I was not aware of the race- mea culpa. Last year, i had a sailboat race to crew in Marin, and the traffic control for the riders nearly made me miss my boat, although i left really early.(You have to hit the barriers just after the main pack has passed: they remove them for an extended period, until the second pack, and ind. riders start to appear. Then there is a long wait.) So,I usually pay attention to when that race takes place to either get out of town before the barricades are erected, or to walk over to Filmore and watch the riders. I never realized they needed support vehicles. I always thought it was weird that atheletes would allow noxious gas fuming vehicles to run so close to them while they are filling their lungs trying to oxygenate their bodies to compete.

but they couldn't keep up with the "riders". And the one that did keep up ended up winning the race!

Yeah, in that instance it is best to get the F outta Dodge. I know when Arlen Ness throws a party, I avoid that area in my town.

...promoting for the bike shop I work at. This consists of doling out free margaritas from our booth on the Embarcadero. Stressful stuff, lemme tell ya. My '72 was 2 blocks away... not quite in the chase but close!

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
