Thinking about a new head.... Recommendations?

Seems that I have a bad valve seal (see I'm screwed below) and I know that I screwed up 2 of the rocker arms (2 of the eccentrics came out and the valve stem wore into the rocker- they are not broken but I would say that they are kinda weak) and seeing as I have an e12 head on my 73tii with the original pump ( i believe the original head was 121??) And finally seeing as I have no time to rebuild the head myself and have been without a car for more than a year and without this 2002 for 5+ years of rebuilding--

I am thinking of getting a replacement head. Questions are

1: If the car originally came with the 121 should I get the 121 head to match the pump?

2: Where can I get a perfect condition no BS head built buy a reputable shop? I'm talking new rockers, guides, valves, etc.

While I could have this head fixed (it has new valves rockes and guides already) It is a paint to do as I live in Japan and would have to rely on my wife for communicating about this stuff. Just getting spark plugs is difficult enough. Shipping this head to the states to repalce a valve stem seal seems rediculous. I have to get this car on the road.

First, if you had a 212 head, you should replace it with a similar one because heads are matched to pistons as the combustion chambers are different between one type and another.

Usually when rebuilding a head, several steps should be followed.

1- Check the head for cracks (usually between the sparkplug and the exhaust valve).

2- Check for thickness of the head. If it has been planned several times, it might not be good anymore as the cam timing could be way off.

3- Replace guides for newer style, along with the newer seals.

4- Install new rocker shafts. Check every rocker on the shaft and only use the ones with no freeplay.

5- Have the valve seats cut with a tri-angle job..

Get your head pressure checked first if it is good then just get a valve job done on it.Replace all guides seals rockers and shafts .I have parts and heads.

Tii most likely came with the head you have on. Check the casting date (little circle with the year in the middle and the month = to the number of tics around the outside of the circle).

Ship your E12 head to Terry in Livermore, CA.

This guy is the real deal, no BS. I and several people I know use him exclusively for all their machining and performance mods.

But I'd stay with the E12 head, the combustion chamber is a bit larger than the 121.

You're looking at about $500 to completely rebuild your head including all new rockers. Also, Terry can bench flow your head as well.
