Wow, Check out the buy it now price of this VP license plate frame on Ebay.

I have taken my VP license plate off my tii and I'll only put it on for 02 shows. I have other CA dealership frames I use for daily use. I use to have an Ocean Motors frame in Santa Monica but it cracked while I was cleaning it. That was the original BMW dealership in Santa Monica before it became BMW of Santa Monica.

Anyone out there have a Peter Pan BMW (metal) they could part with? I've been watching via eBay search for over a year with no luck. Tried to get by there during OFest, but flight delays put us in San Mateo at about 10pm!

Vasek Polak always seems to command the highest premiums, but several of the west coast dealers are consistently over $100.

My '73 was sold new at Mill Valley Imports just north of SF; one of the nice folks on the board sent me a beautiful chrome Mill Valley Imports license plate frame that's period to the car.  And I still have the Bavarian Motors (Queens NY) badge for my '69...

And the Porsche/Audi frames are worth much less. The early Porsche guys want the Manhattan Beach frame more than the Redondo Beach frame but even one of these goes for big bucks. Early BMW frames also said MB and were red but in 70 or so he moved across the street to Hermosa Beach which are the ones you see today. He used these frames up through mid 90s on e34s.

I'm surprised at all you left coast guys not wanting to sport this plate frame. This was the counterculture car of choice in the 70's. Only $9.99 plus shipping

  • 2 years later...

Looks nice, I have several, bought my first 02 there in 1974.  That's the later version used into the early 90s, the font is taller on top.

VP had a black plastic BMW Hermosa Beach license plate frame as well,  I had that frame on my daughters E30 that she had while going to school at UC Berkeley.  She took her car into a local independent Berkeley BMW shop that was referred by members of the R3V forum and while it was be serviced, they took off her VP frame and tossed it in trash and put their own shop license plate frame on her car without asking her permission. Several years later, I'm still waiting on them to deliver me another VP frame but I won't hold my breath that I'll ever see it.

Here's the history of this frame as told by the seller:

"Used license plate holder, taken from  my 2002 BMW in 1978, after it was totalled. Just found it buried in my storage....Chrome plated and all original, metal.  Says on back: Robert W. Brown & Co. Inc, Downey, CALIF."

I hope it isn't jinxed?

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
