Korman has the car. Doing a mechanical restoration. Car needs paint but just can't come up with the cake for it right now. Engine bay, subframes and all engine bay components have been repainted as has the drive train and ready for install. Total new brakes, wheel bearings, Sachs HD, AL 228mm fly. Poly bushes throughout, Korman's Roadsport suspension kit (which I have on my 72 and like a lot)The only re-useable components out of the motor are the block (fortunately) and the cam. New exh manifold. re-building k-pump. Going with larger oil pan capacity, lower end oil mods and an E36 piston skirt oil spray system (Corky Bell covers that really well in his book). 4 speed is good and not going into the 3:36 lsd unless necessary. Will find out at break in. Ray is going to break it in and tune it on his dyno so fuel curve etc can be dialed in. Waiting for the Garrett turbo kit from Jaymic to arrive so the motor can start coming together. No intercooler...unfortunately, but that will preserve the factory look. Also, not messing with the compression ratio. Probably not going to mess with boost pressures either. Ray and the K-pump fellow have to run the numbers and then decide. The goal on this re-build is to make a really nice reliable motor that gives good driveability and pretty much preserves the character of the factory car. Hoping it is done by the end of Sept and going down to drive it back to MA. That should be a great drive!

glad to hear that the car is coming together. sounds like you will have a really great Turbo when Ray is done. Wish I had the scratch for a make-over like that. Maybe ry will come to california with a semi full of tools and parts and a cot and take care of my stable. hmmm, that should only set me back a few shillings. bring turbo to cali for better environmental protection- i will make sure it stays in running condition.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
