Hard To Fill Gas In The Tank

It is very difficult to put gas in my 2002 I just bought. I used own a 2002 around 1993 and I don't remember it being hard to fill gas.

There is pipe the goes to the tank, but the pipe does not go all the way to external body.  Is that the wrong tank for this car or is there a rubber gasket missing?

For me to fill up the car I have hold back

There should be a rubber piece that links the tube to the filler cap. As long as it's in good condition, and properly tight at both ends, filling shouldn't be too hard; just a matter of working out how to aim so that it doesn't splash back out. (Lots of threads here on the right technique).

If you are getting gas in the trunk, then look at the hose clamp that attaches the rubber piece to the tube (mine was loose when I got the car... made a terrible mess).

Push  a piece of 3/4 heater hose 6" long on the gas pump nozzle , the pump nozzle then goes far enough into the tank neck to fill easily, hold back the spring loaded cover on the pump.Don't drop the hose extension in the tank & don't cover the small hole on the bottom of the gas pump filler nozzle, keep the hose extension in the trunk , easy, my cheap way to fill my 71 for the past 3 years, sick of it spitting fuel back at me . My son does the same with his 74.

holy crap, is your gas tank open to the trunk?  i looks like you are missing the rubber boot that goes between the side of the car and the tank pipe!

DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL THIS IS FIXED!!!!!!

the boot is still available.  look up the part number on realoem.com and call BLUNTTECH to order a new one.  do not get a used one.  these things dry up and crack.

there are two different tank fills.  one for early cars and one for later cars.  perhaps you do have the wrong one.  the picture is the later style.

Holy Guacamole Batman, get me a bar of soap, its a family show here.

A bit of background on my car, PO had trailered the car all over NorCal for 23 years, finaly decided to get her goin, by cleaning out the gas tank with a shopvac, 2 weeks in the burn unit made him decide to sell said car. Moral, be very careful with gasoline, it can sneak up and bite you in a heartbeat.

When I recieved car first thing to do was clean gas tank, I needed a temp plug for filler neck to keep chem from dripping down my back as I made leke a human paint mixer to clean said tank. At Lowes Larrys or Ace you will find a pipe end plug that worked perfect for a temp cap, had a rubber part that fit into tanks neck about 2 inches deep, capped by a large flat washer and to expand rubber a large wing nut that you tighten down to form a air tight seal, if nothing else go to hardware store and with this description you will find what you need to make your car safe enough to take on the road, fillin your tank will be covered next time after you find the correct rubber boot, no hoses or funnels are needed

My registration says 1969.  I know the guy I bought it from mix and matched a lot of parts though. My speedo is 20mph off at 70mph.

Mine looks very similar to yours.

similar, but not the same.  looks like you have the "early" long rubber boot attached to a "later" long pipe gas tank.  that is why you see so much of the pipe inside the filler.  basically you have the wrong tank in your car.  maybe some one who knows can chime in with info about whether or not a "later" short rubber boot will fit on your car.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
