E24 Rear Seat Fitment

Over the past couple months I have ponder whether or not to get the E24 rear seats or go with E30 M3 rear seats. Now the E30 M3 look pretty good and would be great for adding a child seat/booster seat. But I could not justify paying alot for a rearseat and not have them really match the curves of the e21 Recaros that I already have installed up front.

I have read a lot of posts that show pics and such of the fitment of the e24 rear seats and console; but not person who has done this:

- List measurements as to what was cut out of the back piece

- Or make a template so that other forum members can use to make this mod.

- I read someone cut this and this to get the seats to fit.

I had found a template somewhere online, and when I followed it, they did not fit... so I cut more out. I don't think its that big of a deal if you cut too much out, because they sit and stay quite nicely in the back... I really have to try hard to un-wedge them. but also noted that there is some space between the seats and the center console.

Cool! The first pic above is mine, here are more that may help you with the parcel shelf fitting. https://picasaweb.google.com/107524535091889778614/BMW2002?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCK_qgfe0oZSoMQ&feat=directlink

The link you posted is the way I did it. Cut some, then more to fit. Remember once you cut it cannot be uncut, so start smaller, fit, cut, fit, cut and fit till you get it where you want it. There will be gaps on the sides of the seats to the cards which I filled with extra foam covered in vinyl. There should hoe no gap between the seats and the center console. I lucked out and found a console without the seatbelt holes which I like much better.

Good luck with the project, the seats are more comfortable than the front E21 recaros!!!

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
