Hey Kris or anyone...need a hand. Ignition starting problems

how do you set the timing for the car to start.. here is what the

haynes manual says. cam and crank 180 degrees out of TDC

with the dist rotor pointing at the notch. Does this make

sense, seems to be igniting prematurly and cause a backfire

thru the carb. Need a BIG hand

Set the dizzy on the notch with the motor at TDC, then turn it very slightly counterclockwise. (Very slightly meaning about 1/2" or so and try to start it.)

Sometimes it helps to have an assistant to turn the key while you move the dizzy a little to the "sweet spot"

You will have to set the timing properly once it runs, but that will get you fired up.

The #1 plug wire on the cap should be somewhere towards the passenger fender area or towards the vin plate area usually.

The crank is at TDC and I also checked inside the spark plug tube to make sure (crank notches are waaay off, dont trust em) The cam's notch is lined up with the oiler bar and the dizzy is pointing at the notch on the rim. I have spark from the coil thru the cap and to the spark plus and I am getting fuel from a 38-38 carb WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON......I have never had this happen before, it wont even fire. I do hear what sonds to be back firing in the exhaust system.

Seems like a no brainer but it is easily overlooked, just check to be sure you have the 1342 firing order from where #1 is on the cap to each cyl.

If the crank is at TDC and the cam is lined up with the oiler tube and the dizzy is just a little advanced from the notch where #1 is.... it will run.

#1 cylinder should be at TDC (notch on the cam sprocket aligned with the spraybar). Rotor aligned with notch on housing. THis would be TDC or 0 degree.

chris here is your solution,remove valve cover, set engine and cam on tdc. set rotor on notch. set points to .016 put cap on . put #1 plug wire in at the notch position.put remaining wires in at a clockwise position Put key in and turn vrooooom
