Swap & Show 2014 Will Be On 3 May At The Brisbane Marina

Hello Everyone--

I hope that all of you at S&S-14 had a great time; I know I did!  It's a lot of work but very satisfying when we see over 100 cars on the lawn.  And we really appreciate when friends chip in to help, whether inside the raffle tent, parking cars, picking up the inevitable trash (I'll blame that on the people walking through on the Bay Trail), and especially wrestling the canopies into submission when the wind threatened.

We have fingers crossed that the Brisbane Public Works Director sees as little lawn damage as I did (basically, mooshed grass that should rebound following the sprinkles' return to service); getting most or all of our deposit back would be very nice.

I also need to comment that someone found some keys that I turned in to the Marina Harbormaster.  They appeared to be house keys with a green fob, bike key and electronic tab along with a bottle opener.

I'm looking forward to seeing some great photos posted to FAQ (here or in the general discussion) or with a link to a photobucket overflowing with images to make us smile. Again, thanks for coming and enjoying the cars, raffle, reverse sticker and especially the people!

Hi Brian--

Thanks for sharing your photos!  I'm glad you had fun; I know I did.

We're pretty sure the NT49MD will again take us around San Francisco next December, and there could be a gathering or 2 before then.  We expect to discuss future events at our debrief in a couple of weeks.  See you and your 02 in coming months!

My son and I had a great time and he picked up some needed parts.  Next year both our cars will be there.  Hoping to attend other Bay Area get togethers and would like to host a smaller event of my own later this summer.  More to come on that.

ROADTEST--BayArea 02 bag

Hi--

Everyone registered at Swap & Show-14 received a blue bag.  I've had mine longer that others so I have a few comments about it.  First of all, it does hold a regular grocery store paper bag pretty well filled.  The nonwoven polypropylene may seen a little thin, but it is pretty strong (do be careful how many rebuilt cylinder heads you carry in one, though).

One extra test I tried is the wash test.  My bag came through the delicate cycle fine with the logo looking great, but there was a problem: the stiffener at the bottom turns out to be simple cardboard encased in polypropylene fabric.  The wash left it in a few clumps of paper mache.  I suggest removing the stifiner if you wash or seriously wet the bag.  Or cut a layer of plastic (maybe a sheet of 60 mil polyethlyene that you might otherwise put below the new tile in your shower) as a more durable substitute.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
