Car on the road!

Aside from a few short runs up the road behind my house I haven't driven my 02 since 1997. I bought the car in pieces and so this is my first experience with the tii. Today i got a temp tag just to tune for the next week. I had a blast. I really had to hold back just incase I forgot something. The combo of the LSD and the quick ratio steering box along with the recaros rocks. The lsd really makes a difference in the tight corners. There are tons of twisties here and I can't wait to explore them all.

tuning notes. The 002 distributor is set at 25deg @ 2500. No pinging under load at any rpm. Idle is decent- actually pretty good. I set the idle at 850 as that is before advance starts kicking in. Dynamic timing looks to be about 2 degrees BTDC but I cannot verify this until I get an adjustable light (in the mail as i type.) I think I'll advance a little further after the inspection (they check the co at idle.) Now the Co is right at 2%.

In terms of the mix the way I have it setup the idle is richer than everything else. So to get the plug dusted brown I turned the idle mixture screw out 1 half turn. Still lean but not too much. So basically its useable. I think a little advance and more gas and I'll be in good shape. Then its time to get the wideband going..... and some new tires and .........

Thanks to all for input and advice!!!!!! I'm psyched!!

Peter

My tii is in pieces, so I'm jealous! 8-)

One thing I've noticed over the years of owning a tii is that the lean/rich mixture can effect the running temperature of the engine quite a bit. Here in Sacramento it can be a big deal, but if you're in a mild climate it might not be.

Enjoy...

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
