Solution For Putting A Round Shift Boot In A Late Car (No Ring)

I'm considering doing the no console look in my 76.  My car doesn't have the ring on the tunnel.  I've seen some suggest cutting one out of an early car and welding it.  Any other solutions?

Also, I'd like to see ideas for relocating the hazzard.

Thanks,

UPDATE:

I think I found the solution.  Go to HD and pick up a 4' drain cover.  The center is scored so it breaks off the ring.

The lip to hold the boot is the perfect size and the boot will stretch down to the bottom of the ring:

You can paint it black just so there's no chance it shows.  I chose to put some extra carpet trim around it.  Plan is to epoxy it onto the tunnel.

Here it is in the car.  Ran the epoxy all the way around the inside of the ring.  Could have done a better job trimming the carpet so that the ring was directly contacting the metal tunnel, but epoxy fixes everything!

And the final product:

besides the cutting and welding...

a ring/lip could easily get fabbed by a pro..

u could also buy pre made  decorative rings that pop rivet, bolt to trans hump thru carpet..they would overlay outer diam of rubber boot  lip...

I took a flue vent diverter ring off of a 40 gallon gas water heater and screwed it to the floor.  Yes, I'm a plumber with parts like these on hand.  I had put new carpet in and forgot all about welding a ring in for the boot.  I just simply used three sheet metal screws to attach it and the boot stretched right around it.  If it wasn't so cold out. I would go get a pic.

I see the boot is available at rogerstii.com.  Do I need the other black piece, or will just the boot and one of the above solutions work?

I had a piece of scrap steel and made a hoop and welded that to the tunnel. The hoop was probably 1.5" tall by whatever the round boot is in diameter. I made a bracket for the hazard button and mounted it just under the dash where the center console was.

Take yourself down to your local hardware emporium or plumbing shop, along with the correct round boot, and find a plastic plumbing pipe with a lip (some type of adapter or reducer), cut to fit and install either with construction adhesive or small "L" brackets (3 or 4) and sheet metal screws/pop rivets.

emmodg--that's my interior!!  I've got black carpet to install, GTS Sebring seats on the way, and a Proto or similar wheel!

Thanks for the suggestions, guys.  I'll buy the boot and then head over to the hardware store!

jgerock, the gray "cup', that is available?  PN?

That "gray cup" is the subject of this thread, if you're referring to the part on the tranny tunnel in jgerock's photo. It's part of the car, and the round boot slides over its lip.

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,
