Got One, Going To Sell It (Soon)

Recommended Posts

Yes, I own a genuine 1600TI and have never completed the full restoration I had in mind (mechanical: yes, interior: sort of, body: nay) and have to throw in the towel.

Those of you in the SF Bay Area might remember it (grenada red), but it has been out circulation for years (and so have I).

I have a ton of spare parts, many just for this model (like the remote brake booster, the mirrors, other interior parts, the pedal box for push-rod clutch, and the complete original Solex twin sidedraft assembly that I pulled off for a Weber downdraft).

I will be slowly making an inventory of all the parts (some of these have to go along with the car, for now) and maybe a video or a good picture series.

I need the money, so I won't be selling cheap, but I will tell all serious buyers everything I know about the car and what I've done to it...in excruciating detail if I can remember it all!

Watch this space...;)

Its great to hear of more ti's of late.

If I had enough spare cash I would have bought them all :P

But I do yearn for a 1600ti, there is just something mystical about it.

Good luck with your sale and I hope you raise the funds you need.

Regards

Jacques

Ps. If you want, find out what it would cost to ship to Germany and advertise it there, ti's seem to have the highest values there.

I can't find the old pics of this car, taken on the 2 occasions I drove it down to SLO for the BMW West Fest (or whatever it was called). I took these rather crude shots of the things that will convince somebody who KNOWS: the serial number (1580144, that's the 1600TI code) and front clip showing no "air intake snorkle" and also showing the brackets for the big airbox and the remote brake booster.

This car has a plain-jane Weber 32/36 downdraft fitted at present so the sidedraft stuff is all taken off and stored...but I do have it.

Thanks to the help of a friend with better computer skills, I have these 2 pics of my car from the 2002 Fest West (2 separate occasions, one was 1999 I think). One was taken by JP Collins and one by Vince S.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
