New point plate but tach is still jumpy...

I'd had troubles with a miss under light-load conditions along with a jumpy tach needle. It was diagnosed as a bad point plate in my distributor, so I ordered a new one. While waiting for it to arrive, the miss cleared up on its own, though the tach was still jumping around some.

The point plate came in Friday, and I installed it Saturday. The car runs great now, but the tach is jumping around worse than before. Sucking on the vacuum line moves the point plate, but only if I'm drawing a lot of vacuum. I checked all the black-wire connections at the distributor and coil, and they seemed clean. Any further ideas?

Hook up a tach/dwell meter from inside the car and check it for stability. Or run a new line outside the wiring harness from the coil to the tach just to see if something is fritzing out in that line somewhere. Seems that the miss and the tach may be separate issues?
