M2 oil pan question..Ok, I got the engine on the stand and..

I took the nice S14's oil pans off and tried to fit the 2002 pan on. Well, it is hitting the oil pump pickup, so it looks like either the pan has to be deepened or the pickup shortened. I remember reading that the 2002's oil pump can be used as it has a slightly shorter pickup.

So who ever did do the swap, what, or how did you fit the oil pan on? Did you have to braze a small hose fitting on to accept the drainback from the breather canister? I plan to use the TEP pan baffle, will this do?

U should do the timing chain tensioner upgrade while the S14 is out. The E36 M3 tensioner will keep it rattle-free!

That looks very suspiciously like my old tii!

Use the 2002 oil pan and the 2002 oil pump, make sure it is a good pump and do not shimm or modify the pump at all, with a good pump you will have more than enough oil pressure, modify it and you will blow seals/filter casings etc. when the oil is cold (to high a pressure)

Hi Ray, Yes it's been quite a few years since I bought it from you but it really is in just about the same condition as when you had it. The S14 engine was too good of a deal to pass, so soon she will be known as M2 Sahara.

Forgot to mention a very important item earlier, you will be using the s14 dipstick, you have to cut it short so while the oilpan is off measure it to fit and mark the level.

Glad it has served u well! How many miles did u put on it? Is the motor still okay? Other issues?

U really shouldn't do the ///M2 conversion to a tii, though! Find a regular shell!

when I picked it up from the port..gawd! how many years ago..6 or 7 years?? I did add a Pertronics module and a Mallory CDI box to help out with the constant spark plug fouling that was going on...I don't know why, maybe the gas here. The very small rust bubble on the door bottom has gotten a little larger. I also added a 3.9 LSD diff a few months ago. I have Varcos big brake setup I plan to put in at the same time as I do the S14 swap. I know what you mean about doing the swap on a perfect tii, but I plan on keeping the car until I cannot drive anymore, and I still own the only 2 02's on this island. I got a '76 2002A for the wife earlier this year...can't touch that one though!! but perhaps the tii engine "might" make it's way in front of that automatic tranny ..hmmmm :-)that's after I fix that lower timing cover oil leak that was there when you still had the car.

the mileage I put on..about less that 2K miles since I bought it from you, no kidding. The motor is fine and pulls hard, no oil burning issues, I replaced the K-fish pump belt a few months ago after being left stranded. That belt was shredded and who knows how long it was running that way, I'm sure it was way out of sync for some time, but still ticking.

Hmm, is the fouling issue solved? Was it fouling all the plugs? Maybe you don't let it warm up enough. What plugs are u running? The belt issue surprises me a bit -- maybe it just got old. I did the lower timing cover leak repair once also. Now I know the cover probably was not milled (correctly if at all) when the head was resurfaced, so the fit is not right. It is a major PITA to do that job -- the quote was $700 labor 8 years ago (so I did it myself). Glad it is doing well for you! I am in China working btw, but I haver an ///M2 sitting in California (pics are at the link!).
