The Martin Sports Car Club is hosting an autocross in south Orlando at the Orange County Civic Center, North lot on Nov 3, 2013.

Go to the http://www.martinscc.org/ for club details and November 3 event scheduling of check-in, tech and track duty if you drive. Also check their facebook site for news and picture links to recent events.

The event check in starts at 8:00 am with on site registration.  This and previous events offer online registration/payment which closes at 9pm the day before.

Ride along instructors are available on your first runs to suggest lines and offer driving tips

There will not be a food truck at this venue, so bring your lunch and enough water for 6 hours.  Also bring running shoes, hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.  Spectators: bring a chair, relax and prepare to be participant in next months event.

Vehicle prep:

Clean up and clean out the car.  Before getting in tech line, make sure nothing is loose in the cabin or trunk.  Bring a tire gauge and use the site air compressor to bump up tire pressure.  Do not fill up the gas tank before event.

Participants:

Listen closely to the experienced drivers and follow their suggestions.  When assigned as a course worker follow all safety protocol and pay close attention to the cars passing in your cone area.

If you register online and select a number, find some large magnetic numbers or use blue masking tape on site.  Don't drive with numbers attached to car to or from the event.  When leaving the venue, drive slow. Novice participants may feel invincible, but law enforcement will see you first and award a citation.

Greg

Thanks for the reminder.  I will be driving 001 and my son will drive either the 633csi or the 02 c320 wagon at the auto x in Taveras.  .

Also while checking the Martin Sports car club site for the correct date of Jan 12, the club mentions Jan 2-5 "Roar before the Rolex 24" and how this Saturday is a good day to watch the teams practice at Daytona,  Tickets are only $15.  We may take the 633 or tii up there later today.

Rain or shine the Tii is going to Sebring. The track is 98 miles from home and AAA towing covers 100 miles.  Plan to drive back vs camping on Saturday to be at Tavares Autocross at 8 am Sunday.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
