Removing intake and cylinder head studs - technique?

Greetings,

I'm in the process of switching manifolds and addressing mild leakage issues on intake side of my head. Having had the replacement intake media blasted, I'd very much like to replace the studs where the carburetor is attached, while if the intake is off, the head studs might also be replaced. I carefully taped the emission equipment nipples and such on the intake - pity I didn't do the same for the studs! I would think that stacking a pair of nuts and attacking the bottommost hardware would work, but an initial attempt failed on the head. Should I stack three nuts? Should I apply strong Locktite? I'd rather not apply heat, but am curious about experiences other have had. Thanks for reading this posting...

Get a stud removal tool. If you're still having trouble, heat is your friend. If they are well and truely stuck on there, I've threaded a nut on the end and welded it there, which has not failed me yet.

Intake side I had a stripped stud that just wouldn't budge... tried the double nut method and liquid wrench to no avail... finally got really pissed off and had at it with a good pair of vise grips!Had that bugger out in no time.. but now on the exhaust side I couldn't for the life of me get the nuts off two of the lower studs, went to local parts store and bought a nut breaker and off they came :) Hope this helps
