Franco Sbarro was one of my childhood heros - swiss lunatic that made all sort of insane custom cars, usually for rich arabs. some were awesome, some were awful, but they were always mad and inventive. who else wondered if you could turn a 928 porsche into a wedge of brie and then have the windscreen slide forward across the bonnet?

Yep - I think it belongs to the owner of Alexandria Bavarian Service. I recall seeing it (or another) at The Vintage one year.

I've only seen two Sbarros--one in Cincinnati and the other in the BMW dealer's showroom in downtown Panama City, Panama!

IIRC they use 2002 drivetrain and suspension but the body and chassis is purpose built...

 

All the looks of a classic pre-war BMW 328 with modern running gear (at least it was modern when they were built in the mid-70s).  The one at auction has a two liter engine with dual carbs, so is probably a ti engine (120 hp).  Should be a lot of fun to drive...

PS--I'm sure y'all know that BMW built the M10 engine for marine use also--as an inboard and I/O drive...

yes it does.  Grant always has it parked in his shop.  i believe he converted the M10 to run on LP gas.

Actually, the 6 cylinder ones had M30's, IIRC.

 

They also built a kid-sized replica. Very nice and gas powered. An old customer of mine had one stored in his warehouse. I offered to buy it, but he wanted it for his grandkids.
