Fuel Pump Question

13

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, im just wondering if the unit in my 74's fuel tank can be used as a sender unit so i can use an external high pressure fuel pump. If that is the case I am going to be really close to having my m20 fire before the snow flies.

what "unit" is in your stock tank?  just the normal pickup and sender for the gauge?

replace it with a stock E30 low pressure pump and sender.

add stock E30 high pressure pump in trunk or in Tii location above the trailing arm.

or use the intank high pressure pump and sender from a later E30 for a single pump solution.

basically, just use the full stock E30 fuel system.

Yeah its just the sender and pick up in my tank. I was planning to use an intank e30 pump but the external pump I got was free and NIB so i was hoping to use that instead

It appears that the E30 sending unit (16141152266) is inserted into the E30 fuel pump carrier (16141180233). Here's a photo of the complete assembly:

yes.  you need the sending unit also.  it works fine with stock 02 fuel gauge.

and yes, all that stuff fits in that little hole in tank.  pump goes in first, then sender inserts into the top of the pump.

although the 1990 and later 318 pumps have a return fitting, the later 2002 tanks have a return pipe built into the top of the tank. this allows you to also use the e30 325 single high pressure pump that does not have a built in return tube.

down side to this setup is that the fuel pickup is a touch shorter than a 2002 pickup, so you lose about a gallon of gas worth of range if you care about that (i don't).  if you are creative, you can cut, add and weld the e30 pump pickup to lower it.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
