Los Angeles Mechanics?

Hey guys,

I recently bought a 74 2002 and it's in good condition but needs some TLC in certain areas. For example the sunroof gears/cables may be broken or stripped out.

I was know a few members here live in LA and was wondering for things that you do not do on your own who do you trust your 2002 with. I'm pretty picky about who works on my cars and don't want it in bad hands.

If you guys are able to recommend any places that would be awesome. I searched for threads on the forum and wasn't able to come up with anything recent.

Thanks

As for the sunroof, keep in mind a number of those parts are NLA.  So no matter who your mechanic you won't find them new.  Each of the (*) shops also actively race 2002's in vintage racing.

Awesome, thanks a ton.

I know about finding the new parts. If it's a cable issue I know Bavarian or a similar site has them, the crank/gears would be another issue.

Thanks for the recommendation though

I take my car to summitt auto in marina del rey/Venice. There's a handful of us on the forum who go there. I completely trust their work and use my car as my daily driver... They're that good. It may be more expensive, but... Tom and dave know what's up and they get it done right from the start. Their motto is simple:

'You can make it different, it's hard to make it better.'

They're fans of restoring as much to stock as possible, though they'll work w you to cater to your needs. Very cool dudes who do honest work.

German Import Service in Simi Valley is excellent, but ask for Gino only.  He has done much work for me.  I have heard that he will be branching out and starting his own shop soon (in Simi).

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
