Tii Cold Start Valve Bypass Button

Recommended Posts

There have been a couple of mentions of bypassing the cold start relay and hooking up a manual switch on the inside to trigger the cold start valve on a tii in recent threads.

Is there a DIY or step by step on installing one of these switches available?

Regards, Maurice.

It looks a bit like the photo in the link below.  The switch with the red label "SCHNELLERPISSER" (upper left) is for the cold start valve in Jynweythek Engineering Lemons tii.

I think you have a loose wire.

Good to see the emergency oxygen cylinder, tho.

Cheers,

Ray

Cheers,

You may have also noted the absence of the steering wheel and shift lever.  It's a totally drive-by-wire setup.

Did your cold start relay die? That's why I did it--those tii relays are too damn expensive (current price for a 61311354686 is ~ $ 236.86). Pretty simple, just a couple wires, a fuse and a momentary push-button switch. In the winter I would just push it for a second while the car fires and then release. Fab up an angle bracket to mount the button and find a place to mount it. Under the dash on the left side works well, unobtrusive.

Cheers,

In the unlikely event of a water landing, the emergency oxygen cylinder is to be used in conjunction with the red emergency flotation noodle.

Fred:

Yes, my cold start relay died, again.  It looks like the circuit board's solder traces have flaked away in three or four places and I am going to attempt a repair.  Soldering in a strand of wire on top of the board looks like it might make this particular one whole again.

Here is a photo of that circuit board, showing the three sections that have flaked off.  I have already cleaned those spots in preparation for the solder bridge on strand of wire in the spots indicated by the green arrows.

In case it doesn't I'd like to have a back-up solution such as the one you suggested.

Regards, Maurice.

That's less $ than a set of tires, and it will last 30 years.

My cold start button is just to the right of the red ignition switch. I spent my $236.86 on other car parts. FWIW, I'm lucky to get 20 hours out of a set of tires. Notice original emergency flasher button at bottom of instrument stack. Brake line pressure gauges above that. Original shift knob from my '73tii. And a bunch of non-BMW parts. No emergency oxygen tank, though :)

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,
