Dip stick tube removal question

Does anyone know how to get the dip stick tube off the block? I tried using a punch to get it out, but with no luck. Do I need to heat it up with a torch?

Oh yeah, one other question, on the block there are some guides (hollow tubes) to help align the head, etc... Do I reuse these or do I get new ones? If I reuse, the same problem as above.

Anyhelp would be great thanks.

the early cars have a plate (attached to the air pump bracket) that unbolts, then you undo a gland nut to remove the tube itself. But that's obvious.

So you have the later style, which is pressed in. you can remove it with vice grips, by squeezing and twisting. But then you need a new tube, and I don't know that they're available. Same with the head dowels, which ARE available, so you can remove them destructively... Alternately, set a small punch against one side, and collapse 'em.

But unless you're decking the block, why bother? And why not leave the dipstick stub alone? It doesn't interfere with anything, does it?

i just took a look from inside the block and it's the pressed in kind. the new block doesn't have the dip stick tube, so i'm trying not to destroy it. as for those other guides, maybe i should just buy new ones.

would heating up the block with a blow torch help to get it out? i'm a total newbie to working on the motor.

good thing tomorrow is saturday and i can still get to double 02 salvage or german auto salvage.

i'll try using the punch again.
