I have a '72 with a stahl header (with i believe a 2" collector... in addition to a built motor and dcoe's). What are my options as far as a new exhaust is concerned? Any bolt-on options? performance is the biggest factor. What are you guys using, Ive heard the ireland engeneering kit is good, anyone using this? Thanks

First decide what diameter tubing you want, if your collector is 2" you probably won't need a reducer. If you have a 2.5" collector, I'd suggest a long transition reducer to either 2.25" or 2".

The picture here is my reducer 2.5" - 2.25" with a flange made to accomadate the two-bolt gasket from a C5 Vette. Note the transition is not abrupt, it is smooth. I think the weld came out pretty good.

You can get a few 45 deg mandrel bends from JC Whitty & thru appropriate cuts & swivels route the exhaust to tuck up in the tunnel. I like a straight thru muffler with an ID tube of not less then the tubing size.

Where you place the muffler has a great effect on the sound. Separate from the sound issue, the best extraction effect comes when the system's breaks/diameter changes are placed at the nodal points.

a Sebring rear muffler. The car is very quiet even though the whole system is a straight thru with not one baffle. My center muffler is a 5 x 8 but I would recommend a 4 x 9 for better ground clearance.

i have two glasspacks on my 72. one where the resonator would be and one in the back. its pretty loud but not obnoxious. definately not a rice sound. peace.

it's loud, but not as loud as i thought it was gonna be. It sounds good, a little burble at idle, not ricey at all, but sounds wicked when romped on. However, i'm not the best person to ask cause I would run a straight pipe if i could get away with it.

supersprint header with 2.25 collector, run strait back in 2.25 to an el-cheapo strait through resonator with a single chrome pipe coming out the center.. looks good, sounds ok, not excessively loud (my mufflered and catco cat'd GLH is at least 5 times louder)and as everyone noted has a nice burble to it. If I were to do it again I'd put the resonator further up (mine sits between the gas tank and spare tire well, thermally wrapped of course).. probably right past the header, the further back you go the more resonance (ratlles for me) you get in the pipe..

I'm running 2 1/4 piping to a magnaflow center resonator to a sebring exhaust from 2002haus that exits the stock passenger side location. A whole lot quieter then when I had the big coffee can center exit Magnaflow muffler, looks nicer too.
