tii idle- progress

Boy I tell ya- I'm this close to taking the tii stuff off and getting back to a carbed car. I like it but man its a pain to deal with. Some or perhaps all of my particular woes have to do with mismatched parts. I used a rebuilt long block that I already had- with the e12 head whereas the pump whas probably mated to a 121. Also I am using the 002 distributor. Ai any rate I wanted to pass on some possibly useful results in terms of getting idle between 2-3% CO (factory spec) without huge surging. Its still rough so take it with a grain of salt but basically I advanced the distributor about 5 degrees or so (guessing based on marks I made on the housing)-thanks to Betenoirs advice. I had it set at 25deg at 2500 (fac spec)and noted that the static timing was occuring at around 2 deg ATDC. I figure this is due to distributor differences.

CD- I just hooked up the vacumme gauge when I had to stop. Going for that high number.

After idle gets nice I can at least get the inspection and get the thing on the road. Running out of time though...........

I still need to get my CO set. I dialed it in using the info from McCartneys book, and from tips on the FAQ. It runs well, decent mileage, but I need to get the idle set.

Luckily there was no inspection due on this car for Calif.

Steve is correct that Pertronix will make a healthy engine run better, but it won't cure other problems, and it may add problems of its own. Find and fix the problem first, then add the Pertronix.

Regarding the aggravation of the tii injection, hire expert help if necessary, but please don't butcher a perfectly good tii by replacing its elegant and efficient injection system with a poorly controlled leak.

but I'm in Japan and.... well it just aint gonna happen. Hell even in the states I woulda had to drive the think to califonia to find an expert. I used to work in a bmw shop in austin and there were 2 guys there that I would have trusted to get it all set up- and it would have cost a fortune. The whole reason that I got into these cars in the first place was because I could do the work. I'm too stubborn to ditch the Kfischer now. Besides all of the $$$ I've dumped into it between the rebuilt pump new linkages and injectors etc. I just couldn't bear to give up-

And the basics- fuel filters, air filters. If you can get a hold of a gas analyzer.

After that, the money may go to invest in another set of injectors or if the Kfish pump needs rebuilding, you can always send it out.

Have you checked with Simple Auto? They were a company in Japan that dealt with 02s a few years back. I don't know if they are still around or not.

You can get the factory Kugelfischer tuning manual and video from Bob Murphy of The tii Register if you don't have them already. Bob is also working on reproducing the special K adjustment tools. or or +1 281 583-2676.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
