Selling my beloved '02! Runs and drives well. Selling because it no longer fits my growing family. I also live walking distance to work and have simply not driven the car much in the last few years. It is time for it to be loved, enjoyed, and well-maintained by a new enthusiast. Not a rush sale and will only sell to an '02-lover!

Location: Tucson, AZ

Asking: $7500

History: Current owner since 2004, repair/upgrade records from current and previous owners since 2001. California car for at least 7 years, garaged in Vancouver, BC for 3 yrs, now an Arizona car for 3 yrs. AZ tabs good to 2018.

Specs of interest:

  • Weber 38/38 synchronous carb
  • Early 320 alternator with internal regulator
  • Pertronix ignition module
  • Superstock coil
  • 288 cam regrind in 2002
  • Tii front struts, shocks, brakes, master cylinder
  • 5 speed transmission and steering wheel from 1981 320IS installed in 2004
  • turn signal lever swapped to left side (could be returned for purists)
  • K& N air filter
  • 'bottle cap' rims from BMW 3 series
  • front seats are Recaros, with retractable 3-point belts
  • Original A/C unit [unknown condition: I have never tried to get it working].

Frame / Accidents: The frame is straight and the car has been in no major accidents to my knowledge. I has experienced a minor fender-bender at the right rear corner - fully repaired and flawless.

Paint: Fully re-painted in 2003, original color Colorado Orange. One area of paint damaged earlier this year when gas leaked from the filler (when parked on a hill with a full tank in the blazing Arizona heat) – see photo.

Rust: Surface rust in one area of passenger foot well (photo). Small areas of rust on underside of both sills.

Fabrics: Typical modest tears in driver's seat. Passenger seat is in outstanding shape and has no tears. A few very minor tears in original headliner. Rockin' tiger-stripe sheepskin seat covers available free to buyer (because yes, you will be that awesome in this car).

Stereo-ready: Wired for stereo with two rear speakers in the back dash and 'kickers' under the front seats.

Comes with breathable waterproof cover. Thule bike rack (pictured) available separately.

Additional and high-res pictures available upon request.

Year: 1970

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
