This Cant Be Good... (Mystery Clips - From Timing Chain Master Link!)

I liked the weber downdraft choke idea.  Those things ARE tiny, and fly off into unexpected places...

if the oil filler was open...

The master links I've come across were oblong, and also would be bigger than 6mm OD, even if they were single...

Hi,

so i see that it is a tii and i understand the tii ground rules.

now if the motor had a distributor with a vacuume advance

and the distributor was being serviced or installed while

the rocker cover was off, ie,getting the cam in the correct

position. it is possible that the clip came from an incorrect

distributor that had a vacuume advance. therefore being

dropped into or flying into and lost in the top of the motor,

and then washed down the oil galley to the pan and the

magnet. as for an oil pump chain, i have never seen one

that was not a full loop. the timing chain guide and tensioner

both have larger c-clips. so as above posted. if you note zero

damage and it is out, just remember it and enjoy the drive.

good luck,

Good thought- vacuum advance arm retention clip...

it's also possible (now that you include the dizzy in this)

that it's the e- clip that holds the dizzy cam down onto the lower part of it.

They're tiny, and sit underneath the felt that you're supposed to oil.

And if you pull on the cam part of the dizzy and whack the shaft gently,

the clip pops off.

(That's the factory disassembly method!)

this is fun.

thought the hold down for the dist part youre discussing is a spring ring (and it's a B*!@#** to get out and back in). there is a small clip like the one shown that holds the vac advance arm to the points plate. bet that's where it came from, but all the stars would need to be lined up correctly, e.g. removing the vac advance with rocker cover off, flip the clip off the post on the points plate, if flies off and lands in the head and gets washed into the oil pan. Thing is, changing out the vac advance is usually a job done with the dizzy removed

I will be poking around on the weekend.  I suspect the dizzy, or remainders of the dual webers.

Thanks for all the help... maybe I have a cause for my original ring failure.  Amazing what the track and lateral g's will flush out!

It looks like it came from the inside of the KF pump. It holds a thin drive plate to the shaft on the cone. G

F*@k I hope you are wrong, but this makes the most sense. I don't know enough about pump mechanics... but I will contact Gus Pfister.

any links to educate me more on this part?

Looks to be part 71 or maybe 72, but my money is on 71. Thoughts if i should be driving, or wheeling the car to the shop. Any thoughts on what not having it will do? In theory could have been running without this for a month or so...

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
