just saw this commercial on TV .....

 

the car makes it's appearance at Time 0:11 ...... is this a somewhat modified 2002 ??  The grille is obviously something else, but everything else looks like a 2002 .....

Yup-  has E30 bottlecaps on it too!

Looks like the front of a pre 1996 Dodge pickup truck grafted onto the front end.  The wheels are E30 steel wheels and the headrests appear to be mismatched--one is the 1974 and earlier style, the other is the 75/76 variety.  The car is cut off before you can see if it's a roundie or a squarelight, but since the wiper arms and blades are black, and it has flag mirrors, it's probably a squarelight...

The front is a 1969-1970 Chevy pickup front end.

Even if it's just CG'd together? That nose was put on with pixels.  Why, I have no idea.

 

Now, I've blown up more than my share of transmissions on 2002's, and they have NEVER smoked.

 

Well, except for the time the fill plug fell out going into t4 at pacific...

There is a previous post on this.  I believe the front was converted because of BMW.  Rules, regs, copyright or something.
