Nice! It's a project near the top of my list. So are u planning in using the mechanical fuel pump? How about ignition? The 2 things I am going to do are upgrade the ignition to a crane xr700/3000 and msd blaster coil and then go to a mechanical fuel pump.

This is just part of my top end makeover.

Dual carbs.

292 SCHRICK cam.

MSD ignition.

My MSD billet dizzy is on its way to me from Terry Tinney. (Terry modifies MSD distributors designed for air cooled VW to work in the BMW M10 engine.)

I will have a complete MSD CDI ignition system.

MSD pro billet distributor.

MSD 5520 ignition box with rev limiter.

MSD blaster 2 coil.

I plan on using the stock mechanical fuel pump.

Cool , I run my stock fuel pump with a Filter King to regulate fuel pressure , Gotta love them Dellortos , fit a wide band O2 sensor into your header it will make tuning much easier & remove much of the guesswork.

Does he have a web site sounds like an interesting ignition package.

Yes Sir. I plan on adding a wide band when I redo the exhaust. (I'll have most of the exhaust system out when I do the 5-speed/LSD conversion.) in the meantime I have a portable/battery operated 5-gas analyzer.

I have installed modern CDI ignitions on several older 'points' type ignition project cars. They provide better idle, performance, emissions and economy. I originally bought a dual point Mallory distributor from a FAQ member and was going to replace the points with a electronic pickup and a Mallory ignition box. After buying the Mallory dizzy I had a hard time locating the parts to adjust the timing curve. (I wanted this feature to help dial in my dual carb setup.) While searching the FAQ I learned that air-cooled VW distributors are the same as 2002 dizzies except for the drive gear. More FAQ research revealed Terry Tinney. Very nice guy. Good communication. Fast turnaround. Terry modified the MSD VW pro billet distributor I sent him. He machined/installed a longer shaft to mount a BMW drive gear. (I also provided the gear) He did not develop nor sell me a 'package'. I'm sure you could discuss options with him. There is a ton of information on the web regarding CDI ignitions. I like using YouTube to research many items. Several good videos on MSD components. I will post details when I do the ignition install.

Looking good but you should install soft mounts between the carbs & intake , howdit run ?

Fuel filter too, very important  I run my filter king filter/regulator after the fuel pump with the stock BMW filter before the pump.

Jeremy I'll beg to differ been using soft mounts for 35 years on different builds & not had a problem with fuel frothing etc which I believe is the inherent problem with hard mounting side drafts . What is your take on them & why disapprove, I'm always open to persuasion.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
