Has Anyone Done A Grey Interior?

Recommended Posts

I am repainting my car in Inka orange and thought that a grey interior would look nice.  I can't find any examples of anyone deviating from the normal color schemes, except of course for the truly outrageous ones!  I was thinking that I might delve into the grey color choices from later BMW's to keep it looking factory correct.

If anyone has any pictures of a grey interior on a 2002 I would love to see them.

But for some reason -- Hoffman and/or BMW NA -- gray interiors were fairly rare in the U.S. (I haven't a clue if that's also true in other markets).

So...this guy needs a photo! I have certainly seen some factory gray interiors on this forum but I wouldn't know how to search for them as they seem to appear not as a focus but more-or-less incidentally.

The grey interiors were used throughout the 02 production.  Some shades differed slightly at least on the early cars.

Known color combinations (as previously mentioned) which at least for the US were not very common:

A.  Atlantik

B.  Granatrot

C.  Malaga

D.  Pacific

E.  Schwartz

F.  Turkis

G.  Verona

All of those colors provide a great combination when in good condition.  Like life though.....beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Edit:  Added Atlantik (forgot about the '74 Tii sold a while back)  Thanks 73 Touring

I've seen Bristol grey with grey interior, very grey all around, but it looked good...

that sounds like an amazing color combination (i like gray).

i always thought an interior done in denim would be cool and would wear in well; but definitely not for someone who wants to keep everything stock.

Denim Interior? On the 1973 Gremlin, an option offered was a Levi's interior trim package, which included spun nylon upholstery made to look like denim (fire safety regulations prohibited the use of real cotton denim). Details included removable map pockets, burnished copper rivets (thigh burners), and red Levi's logo tabs.

The '75-'76 all-model Farben Polster (Color and Upholstery) pamphlet includes the attached chart showing the factory recommended exterior-interior color combinations. I'm only showing the 2002 portion of a larger chart.

The gray interiors are represented by the gray blocks marked "0004". Of course, and for example, it seems that at least 90% of the Malaga cars coming to the U.S. during this '75-'76 period had beige "0003" interiors. Why? I haven't a clue!

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
